Origin beastly new EON laptops boast full-blown desktop Core i7 processors - colliercatry1936

Updated/Aplanatic January 5 at 7:37PM Pacific: Turns out you don't have to hold back long if you wish one of these laptops—they're available today, opening at $1,842. Original story below:

For years, the mantra with gaming laptops has been the same American Samoa other gadgets—sleeker, thinner, and more lightweight. And companies take over pushed that in essence as immoderate arsenic it can go, with Razer's Blade gaming laptop line looking practically indistinguishable from a regular laptop computer.

Which is why I find information technology sort of refreshing to see Kevin Wasielewski, CEO of Origin, use the words "comparatively thin" in the handout for his company's fashionable gaming laptops, the updated EON17-X and EON15-X.

Make no mistake, at 1.5″ broad the EON15-X and EON17-X are pretty bulky machines, just you're trading convenience for power—a lot of power. How much power? Origin crammed an full-blown screen background Core i7 processor inside these new machines.

Playing with power

Intel's pretty tricky when information technology comes to labeling their processors, specifically when it comes to laptops. That "Heart i7" in the latest and greatest gaming laptop? It's a shadow of a real background Core i7. Seriously.

Origin's even off got a intrinsic good example to point to. Alongside the new EON15-X and EON17-X, Origin's showing off the revamped EON15-S at CES, which also runs a Core i7 CPU. A Core i7-4720HQ laptop processor, to be exact. The Core i7-4720HQ runs at a base speed of 2.6GHz and can dynamically spool busy 3.6GHz along combined active core.

Compare that to the EON15-X and EON17-X, which feature the LGA 1150 socket and gum olibanum can constitute loaded with up to an Intel Core i7 4790K, a.k.a. "Ogre's Canyon." The quad-core 4790K runs at a base swiftness of 4GHz and has a Turbo clock speed of 4.4GHz.

That's a drastic divergence between two "Intel Kernel i7 processors."

Certain, you can suffer mobile processors that glide path the mogul of top-of-the-logical argument background processors. Intel's 4940MX has a scoop turbo time speed of 4GHz, which is pretty impressive. The deviation is that you'd pay all over a thousand dollars for just the 4940MX C.P.U., as opposed to $340 for the 4790K. For comparison, the 4720HQ in the updated EON15-S costs around $400.

So Origin meet desktop LGA 1150 socket technology into a laptop is a pretty huge boon. It allows them to offer mode more power at a price equivalent to the mid-drift gambling laptop processors.

With great business leader comes good thermal responsibilities

There's a tradeoff, of flow. Opening of entirely, size. As I said, the EON15-X and EON17-X are comparatively hefty machines by modern standards, coming in at approximately 1.5″ in height and 7.5-9 pounds (depending on which screen size you choose). That's definitely thicker than the Vane's 0.7″, although Alienware's 17 and 18 inch offerings are comparably bulky.

EON15-X

A glance of the EON15-X's fully-backlit keyboard.

The other problem is heat dispersal. Background machines are frequently vast, with multiple fans installed to maximize airflow and keep those processors cool. Nearly gamers (myself included) even install aftermarket coolers to help that treat along even more.

Cram a background processor into a laptop and you'Re looking at a lot Thomas More heat up. I know my actual Origin laptop computer runs pretty warm equal with a scrimpy 2.5GHz laptop mainframe privileged, and I'm rummy to see how the EON15-X and EON17-X manage temperatures.

Finally, in that location's the question of whether you even need all this power. Well-nig games are still GPU-limited, not Central processing unit-limited, so the extra processor hurrying power not help you unless you're doing heavy exposure/video rendering or other processor-heavy tasks.

Talking of graphics card game, you can pay off up to an Nvidia GeForce GTX 980M with 8GB GDDR5 VRAM in the EON15-X and EON17-X. The updated EON15-S, away contrast, comes with an integrated Nvidia GeForce GTX 980M with 4GB of VRAM.

Regardless of model, totally that power is encased in an spellbinding, understated case with a divorced Origin logo connected the top. The keyboard along for each one is full backlit with N-key rollover, and the laptops (including the updated EON15-S) are all branded "4K-Ready." Every last three models as wel feature support for m.2 PCIe drives and capable 32GB of RAM.

We don't have prices OR let go dates on any of these models yet, but we'll keep you updated. Time to invest in a larger laptop handbag, I guess.
